Bells of Ireland – Antique Apple Green (Heirloom) –Molucella laevis
Annual –Unique, eye-catching branching spikes cloaked in shell-like blossoms the same soft green shade as Granny Smith apples. Their form and color sets off all other flowers.
Soil & Water:Prefer finely textured garden soil in full sun.
Planting & Growing: Sow seed 2″ apart and cover 1/2 inch deep and keep moist.Germination may take 10-20 days.Weed and water carefully and thin before too crowded.To start indoors, sow 2″ apart in individual pots and cover 1/2″ deep, keep moist and provide as strong light source.Thin garden seedlings to 10″ apart once 3-4″ tall.
Harvesting & Storage:Cut flowers when the cups are open as far up the stem as possible but before the bottom ones brown.To air dry, cut once shells have opened all along the stem and hang upside down.
